GOING THE EXTRA MILE

JTR Racing- Going The Distance for Children with Diabetes

November 13-15th, 2007 marks the 40th anniversary of one of the worlds’ most grueling off-road tests of man and machine- the Baja 1000.  An unlikely band of husbands and wives, moms and dads, and businesspeople from Oregon and California, have taken it upon themselves to not only meet this challenge, but beat it.  JTR Racing, a newcomer to the sport of off-road racing, prepares to conquer all 1,295 unforgiving miles of the desert race from Ensenada to Cabo San Lucas.  As if the challenge of building up a vehicle and preparing their bodies to withstand the abuse of this harsh environment were not enough, this diverse grass-roots team of local business people are inviting others to join them in going the extra mile to raise money for Gales Creek Camp, a camp in Oregon that teaches young people and their families how to prepare for the challenges of living with diabetes.  Those that would like to join the challenge, are invited to go to www.jtrracing.com to donate to the JTR Racing campership fund.

JTR Racing has set two nearly impossible goals: to complete the Baja 1000 in one of the top three positions in their class 3 Jeep Grand Cherokee and to raise enough money for 400 kids and teens to attend camp this year.  As JTR prepares to face the harsh realities of the Baja 1000 challenge, many families are learning to face the realities of living with a loved one who has diabetes.  Gales Creek Camp, located just outside of Portland, OR, is a place where children and teens can gain confidence in managing their diabetes.  Almost all of the 22-member JTR Racing team, have family members who are living with diabetes.

The JTR Racing Team includes John and Nancy Maine (Pace Heating), Rodney and Nikki Stauber (Stauber Real Estate Appraisal/ Xtreme TM), Dave and Kathy Jolliff (B&R Auto Wrecking), Tony and Chris Ullian-Hake (Griffo Bros.), Keith Delaney and Nancy Thompson (Raydye Co.), Tom Kruse (Lane Parts Co./ Prudential Real Estate), Matt Levash (Lane Parts Co.), Gabe Duhalde (Trackside Performance), Vic and Nancy Curl (Trackside Performance), Jake Young (Eaton), Mitchell Stauber (Columbia Concrete), and Terry Maloney (Legacy Systems) and the 4 wise men Mr. Phil Dean, Mr. Paul Powers, Mr. Ed Burnap, and Mr. Gordon Scott (retired).
